Christmas is round the corner. That means the time for gift giving and celebration is here. It’s the time when you have to make a long list of what gifts you will be mailing to your near and dear ones. While simple cards with the season’s greetings do suffice for colleagues at work, you should get your friends and family something special and unique. If you are tired of gifting them the run of the mill gifts like books and stuffed toys, you can try something different this year. Here is a list of some out of the box gift ideas for Christmas that you can try this year. While most of them have an element of the ethnic Indian style incorporated in their design and making, they have a global appeal.

Mughal miniature paintings: Hailing from the era of the glorious vintage era, miniature paintings have a flavor of the art from the Medieval period , with bright warm colours and intricate detailing predominating each work of art during the time. While not as expensive as full scale Mughal paintings, miniatures are affordable and speak of a refined taste in art, culture and harmony. These make excellent Christmas gifts for your more arty and ethnic culture obsessed friend.

Door hangings: This is a very Indian home décor item that is inexpensive yet beautiful. Door hangings are generally decorative pieces of cloth fashioned out of cotton or satin fabrics and decorated along the top of a door. These door decorative pieces look very welcoming, if put on the main door at the entrance of the house. You can pick a more elaborated and intricately designed door hanging for your front door and smaller and less conspicuous once for other rooms. They are generally decorated with various kinds of embellishments and thread work and have traditional religious or cultural markers on them. The sacred “om” is one very common example of the designs that are prevalent amongst these decorations.

Designer stoles: The traditional Indian stole is certainly one fashionable accessory that all the ladies would love to possess. Crafted out of handmade fabric and design items like “Rajasthani bandhej” or tie and dye and other fabrics like silk and crepe, these stoles look fabulous with Indo-western outfits. They bring out a very traditional element by adding a hint of ethnicity to all your dresses.

Ottomans: This is another item of home decor which has multi-faceted uses and can easily incorporated into any room. It brings about a very dynamic look to the room and can transform the theme. You can use a variety of ottomans in different rooms, like round, square and even rectangular ottomans. You can use them as foot stools, sitting spaces and coffee tables. They can also work well as storage compartments to stash away stationery items like magazines, books and cushions.

White metal creations: German silver items like statuettes and figurines, designer wall hangings, photo frames, fruit and nut boxes and jewellery boxes look very good as centre pieces in the house and can be used in the living room.

The good thing is that all the mentioned items are very affordable yet looks very elegant and royal. They can be easily ordered from online stores like Rajrang.com. As its holiday season, the stores may have different offers and discounts. So before Christmas bells ring, complete your last minute shopping and get ready to welcome your loved ones with warm hugs and beautiful surprises.

Owning a boat is a great way to get out and enjoy the great outdoors if you happen to have a love for the water. However, nothing is perfect, so it is a reality that you might get involved in a boating accident. If you happen to ever be involved in a boating accident, there are some important steps that you can do in order to pick up the pieces. If you purchase a boat and want to be sure that you are safe any time that you take your boat out, it's important to realize that you are taking your safety into your own hands, so do what you can to protect yourself.

Touch Base With the Authorities

First, you need to make sure that you can get in touch with the authorities. One of the best ways to do this is by having an emergency phone on your boat. This phone will allow you to get in touch with the maritime police and rescue squads that can locate and reach you in order to help you recover from the accident.

Take Inventory of Your Surroundings

Next, you should assess the boat as best as you can, to make sure that you are not in any glaring type of danger. For example, if there is a hole on your boat that you can fix to prevent leaks or any other kinds of damage, it's best that you fix what you can in order to stop the damages. This way, you will be in the best position to survive while waiting for help to arrive.

Safety and Health Check

You also must make sure that you take inventory of your personal health. Are you injured? Have you eaten? Do you have proper protection from the heat? These are some of the questions that you'll need to ask yourself to be sure that you're not leaving yourself open to perilous situations that are entirely avoidable. This is another reason why you should stock your boat with first aid kits and rations that will get you through any tough times.

Make Your Presence Known

Make yourself highly visible. Just in case you can't get in touch with the authorities, or if it is taking them a long time, you should make your boat visible to any travelers on the water or anyone overhead. They might be able to help you to safety and take care of you while you are waiting. This will also make it clear that you are stranded and in need of help. This way, they will not run into you or bypass you in their own travels.

Calm Down!

Finally, remain calm. Boat accidents happen all the time, so it's important that you not treat it as though it's the end of the world. You never know how long you will be stranded, so if you stay calm, you'll have a better chance to protect yourself and your health while waiting for relief.

When you follow these steps, you will have everything that you need to survive any kind of boat accident. You can post an action plan in your boat as a reminder, just in case you are faced with this kind of situation.

I have never been a great fan of Christmas. Quite apart from the excessive expenditure and ritual overeating, there always seems to be a shocking disaster during the festive season. Something awful sits waiting in the wings to strike at the most inopportune moment. Right now I feel terrible because when talking to a friend this week I was discussing this very subject and said that the build-up to the big day was going well because there hadn’t been a disaster. Then whilst watching television last night the inevitable happened and I feel like I have tempted fate. The roof on the Apollo Theatre in London collapsed injuring more than 70 people.

Lockerbie

I still remember the 21st December 1988. I had just sat down after a busy day and was watching something suitably vacuous on the television. The broadcast was abruptly interrupted with breaking news of an aeroplane crash in Lockerbie, Scotland. The news of the accident was shocking enough but I then realised that I had freight on the plane. I was working for a mail and airfreight company at the time and had spent the week preparing a consignment of magazines bound for America. The shipment was aboard Pam Am 103. The magazines didn’t matter but it just made the disaster seem all the more real.

Tsunami

Christmas 2004 was blighted by the horrendous Indian Ocean tsunami which killed over 200,000 people on Boxing Day. It was a catastrophe of such magnitude that it was impossible to take it all in at first. One minute I was enjoying a festive meal the next I was glued to the television as news of the drama unfolded. It was hard to feel in any way festive after watching the footage and it all served to make Christmas feel even more pointless. I had no personal connection to the disaster but it simply wasn’t something you could easily dismiss from your mind.

The Curious Incident

This year disaster was much closer to home. I was wrapping some Christmas presents with one eye on a recording of the BBC production The Great Train Robbery when my friend suddenly announced that the ceiling had collapsed in the theatre during a performance of the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nigh-Time. I was so stunned that I made no response for a while but later examined the news coverage in horror. As a regular theatre goer this was all a bit disconcerting. I had spent many an evening contemplating the huge chandeliers that adorn the ceilings of our Victorian theatres and wondering if there was any chance of them falling on my head. I always dismissed my musings as foolishness. After all such things would be checked wouldn’t they? Clearly not.

Tickets

To make matters worse I am in possession of tickets for a performance of the Curious Incident in February. The book has always been a firm favourite and I have wanted to see the show since it opened back in 2012. I have no idea what will happen now but I suspect that I won’t be watching the show in the Apollo on the appointed day. I have tickets for two other theatre productions in the New Year and now fear that I will spend both evenings peering at the ceiling.

Christening Teddy Bears

The arrival of a new baby is often a cause of celebration uniting family and friends in the joy of welcoming new life and optimism into the world. Everyone is always delighted to meet the new family member and will be willing to travel from far flung places when they receive the Christening invitation. This then leads to the decision of choosing an appropriate gift for the child, one that will last long enough for the child to appreciate and enjoy, as well as one that would remind you of their childhood when they have grown up and left home. Christening teddy bears would certainly ensure that the new baby in the family would have a lovely toy to cuddle and would mark the special occasion forever.

Tradition

Christenings can be steeped in tradition as sometimes families can have a special Christening gown that is passed down through generations of the same family. You may even decide to start the tradition for the first time with your own family, selecting a Christening dress or gown that would be used for years to come. You may even decide to start the tradition of giving Christening teddy bears to new members of the family so that they will always be able to remember their special day. The beautiful white gown of course will be stored carefully until the next new family member arrives.

Royalty

Prince George, the newest member of the Royal Family, was christened in a replica gown of one worn by Queen Victoria's eldest daughter showing that the royal family too are revisiting old traditions. The young princes, like all christened babies, is lucky to have a large selection of God parents to look out for him and watch him grow up. It also makes you wonder what other traditions they have restarted or indeed begun. Maybe Prince George snuggles up to his own personalised christening teddy bear in his royal cot.

History

Christenings and baptisms haven't always been a pristine and fanciful event in the past, they normally consisted of mainly adults who had decided that they wanted to be baptised being submerged in a river with the ceremony being conducted by a holy man. May be one of the most famous person to conduct baptisms was John the Baptist who was famous for being Jesus' cousin and also baptising Jesus in exactly the same way as other believers were baptised. These days we tend to rely on the blessed water in a font placed at the entrance to the church to welcome the new child to the church.

Your Celebration

However you and your family decide to celebrate the christening of your new baby, you can be sure that everyone will welcome the little bundle with joy and shower them with many gifts. A christening teddy bear maybe one of the gifts that will have a special place in you and your child's heart and will continuously bring joy to your little one and of course to you when your baby has all grown up and flown the nest.

It is surprising what a set of well crafted and vibrant cushion covers can do to your room and home decor. As cushions are used in almost every room of the house, be it the living room, bedroom or the lounging area, you can pick up different cushion cover sets for each of these rooms, depending upon the function of the cushions and the general mood of the room. For example, if you want a sober and business like theme for your study, you cannot pick multicolored or fluorescent cushion covers for the sofa set. The mood must be somber and the design of the cushion covers must match the general appearance of the room. Here are some basic facts that you must keep in mind before you go out for cushion shopping.

Texture and fabric: While you can generally play with design of the cushion covers, stick to durable fabrics for the house. Cotton and polyester are better options for the living room where most of the activity takes place. Reserve the more luxurious and expensive fabrics like silk, velvet and organza for the lounge or conference room. If you have kids in the house, cotton cushion covers are undoubtedly the best option as they repel stains of most kinds and easier to wash.

Purpose and function: Cushions can transform the entire look of a room, depending on the function that they must perform. A set of vividly colored cushion covers in neo pinks and oranges can immediately lend a very lively look to a room and hence, can be used in children’s rooms. If you are picking out covers for the cushions on patio furniture, or the poolside armchairs, make sure that they are water resistant. Similarly, for the bedroom, you should go for covers that are elegant, soothing and made out of comfortable fabrics.

Design element: The sheer variety of covers and their designs is just mind boggling. In a home furnishings showroom, the myriad range of designer covers will take your breath away. Depending on where you want to place your cushions, you can go for intricately embroidered covers in lace, satin, silk and organza, or simple crocheted ones that look elegant and classy. Tie and dye and batik covers are very popular and provide a very ethnic look for the room. Printed cushion covers are also quite a rage as they are durable and look fabulous at the same time.

Pattern of choice: There are various stitches and patterns that you can opt for, in the case of cushion cover designs. For dobby covers, floral designs and paisley prints look very apt, while frills, tassels and beads look good with luxuriant fabrics like silk and satin. You can also look for intricately woven designs on jacquard cushion covers, which exudes a very ornate and sophisticated aura. As most of these prints and varieties are available online, you can pick your favorites set of cushion covers online right from the comfort of your home.

Korean fashion has grown in leaps and bounds in the contemporary world. This has seen the birth of numerous online Korean fashion stores that stock Korean designer clothes as well as other Asian-inspired apparel. This is an interesting development due to the fact that some years back, Korea was conservative in many aspects including fashion. This was because of the effects of a closed economy. The policies that were operational were taking a toll on every aspect of the Korean economy which was detrimental to its development. After this, the government introduced liberal policies in the country which helped to open up the economy to the rest of the world.

The benefits of an open economy have been felt by many more so on the online platform. This has led to many people being attracted to what Korea has to offer in terms of fashion apparel and designs. The revolution of Korean online fashion stores has stirred a great deal of competition occasioned by the fact that most of these stores sell their merchandise at relatively low prices.

The proliferation of forums and blogs that discuss Korean fashion has also see a tremendous increase in the number of individuals becoming interested with the Asian apparel. If the current statistics are anything to go by, Korea is a country that is strongly represented online. Korean online stores not only sell their products to Koreans but also to Americans, Europeans and other fashion lovers across the world. In addition, most of Japanese youngsters adorn themselves in Korean fashion clothes most of them which are purchased online.

It is worth mentioning that Korean clothes are highly sought after especially on the online platform because the Koreans have mastered the art of marketing their merchandise. Without formidable marketing strategies, the online stores wouldn’t have so many customers.

Apart from solid marketing strategies, these online Korean stores ensure that they provide valuable, interesting and unique content to their clients as well as prospects. The information is usually posted on their sites. This works perfectly well for these online stores because Europeans, Americans, African and so on are interested in getting finer details about the Korean culture, history and habits. When prospects get useful information in your site, the chances of them making a purchase are very high.

Apart from Korean apparel, Japanese fashion items are on high demand from across the world. Japan and Asia at large have a very rich culture which designers usually incorporate in their designs. This makes their fashion items to be very attractive and appealing to the rest of the world. Asian-inspired clothes are not only designed for women but there are also a myriad of classic and stylish designs targeted to the men fork.

Though Japanese and Korean clothes look similar, they differ in various aspects. This is because the Japan and Korea have major differences when it comes to culture and history. Therefore, before making a purchase of Korean or Japan apparel, it’s of paramount importance you take time and find out more about them so that you can make the right choice. This information you can get it from the numerous online Korean clothing stores.

If you are planning to buy a rally car, you must not rush into things without doing some research about the rally car market. Buying the first rally car can be quite confusing for most of us. The danger of losing money and valuable time is quite high, if you aren't thorough on the subject. Rally cars are a tiny niche in the much bigger automobile market. Most people enter into this business not knowing anything about how to get the best deal or which vehicle to choose in the process. We have put together some important tips that would come in handy when you decide to buy a rally car.

Purchasing or Renting the Rally Car -

Most people would prefer to rent a rally car for a short term before actually buying one themselves. There are rally car sales companies that run schemes known as "Arrive and Drive" for those people, who are looking to dip their toes in the water before owning a rally car. Buying a rally car can cost between £1,000 to £250,000 in the United Kingdom. Not only the investment, there is a great deal of time and effort also involved in the process of purchasing a rally car.

However, if you are sure about your intentions of owning a rally car, you should plan to buy a car that could be sold for a higher price at a later date. Part exchange or searching for a used rally car can save money that would have been spent as an up-front investment. This information will be very important for people who are planning on purchasing a rally car.

Track Day - A day that allows non-members to drive their own cars around the circuit in a racing venue. A small fee is charged as a facilitating fee. Track day cars can be anything from Toyota Prius to Robin Reliant.

Nowadays, their size keeps them light and easy to carry, but pre-1600, when timepieces were driven by weights, carrying them would not simply not have been as practical.
The Earliest Watches
The earliest known date for a watch to be produced was 1524, when 15 Florins were handed over to Henlein for 'a gilt musk-apple with a watch'. This period is one of the greatest for innovation and advancements in the horological industry and In 1548 other watches appeared, probably, of German or French origin. English and Swiss versions were a few years behind and did not appear until around 1575.
The first timepieces were incredibly inaccurate. They had only the one hand, the hour hand and had to be wound twice a day. The first movements were straight verge movements, with no balance springs, and they were made exclusively from steel, though brass began to be used shortly after. The gear cutting-engine had not yet been introduced and steel production was not as precise as it is now. In fact, many steel alloys had not even been discovered. The variations in quality were huge, which meant time-keeping was anything but an accurate art.

A crucial development in the production of the first watches was the use of the spiral-leaf main spring. This was important as it allowed horologists to power the movement without the need for the regular hanging weights. This was good news for weak wrists, but it opened a pandora's box of new issues. Usually, a spiral spring's tension wouldn't remain constant from fully wound to unwound and watchmakers found there was a large difference between the timings of the short arcs and the long arcs.
Watchmakers attempted to improve the accuracy by reducing this spring force error. They only used a portion of the mainspring, which produced nearly linear tension on the train. This definitely helped, but other methods of producing constant torque on the train were sought in search of greater accuracy.
The English and French used a fusee for their solution. The first versions stopped the clock during winding, but it vastly improved the regulation of the spring tension and was widely used until the 20th century.
The Germans preferred to use the stackfreed, their own invention, which had a cam at the end of the barrel arbor. The cam had another leaf, or spring, acting upon it, which was meant to compensate for the variations on spring tension.
Stops were also included to try and prevent over oscillation of the balance wheel. They acted as a crude regulator and were usually made from stiff hog bristle.
By the end of this period, watches had already come a long way. Astronomical data and dates had already been included on the watch's face, but there was still a long way to go. Even with all the fancy add-ons, the most important of functions, the timekeeping, was still extremely poor.
Millions of shoppers who are conscious about their budgets have registered at online coupon sites like Groupon, Living Social and FatWallet. As a lifestyle, hunting and clipping coupons has even reached American television screens with the show Extreme Couponing on the TLC cable network. The craze itself extends well beyond US borders too.

Amidst all the uproar surrounding coupons, there are many frugal shoppers who regularly save on their grocery bills without ever using coupons. These aren't cheapskates or tightwads; they are rather thoughtful shoppers who regularly follow a smart set of rules to keep their spending under control and who know where real bargains can be found.

A popular pearl of wisdom among thrifty grocery shoppers is that anything that merits printing a coupon costs more than it should. That's the first rule of smart shopping without coupons. The key is to find stores where low-cost items can be found on a regular basis. This entails a bit of comparison shopping. The same rationale that goes behind shopping for big-ticket items, such as a new car, should be applied to grocery shopping.

Comparison shopping for groceries should start with a little investigative work. Asking friends, relatives, and co-workers about where they shop for groceries and how much they pay is a good initial step. Online social networking works wonders for this step; due to the tough economic times we live in, everyone is interested in saving money and helping others along the way.

Planning ahead is key. Households that plan their menu for the week usually spend less on groceries. Portion control should determine how much to buy, not the other way around. A shopping list should that is made from a menu results in greater savings than simply buying in bulk. This also prevents having to make frequent trips to the store.

Grocery stores are often full of prepared, semi-prepared, convenient and tempting items that are designed to bring in higher profits. Packaged vegetables that have been pre-washed, peeled and cut may be time-saving, but they aren't money-saving. The same goes for boneless and skinless chicken.

The next important step is choosing the right stores to compare. Stores in large metropolitan areas are bound to have higher prices and, thus, should be avoided. Sometimes, it is better to take a quick trip to the suburbs or to rural areas to find better prices. Once inside the store, it is important not to become distracted by the colorful bargain displays. The only items on sale that should be purchased are those that are consumed regularly. Too often sales are centered on buying higher quantities instead of offering items that are truly discounted.

A real way to determine if a store is cheaper than others is by looking at the unit prices. When investigating a new store, it really helps to bring a cash receipt from another one.

Items placed at eye level and on top shelves tend to command higher prices. The really affordable items and generic “Brand X” items are often placed on bottom shelves.

When coupons and regularly low prices are combined, however, savings are heightened considerably. Look for coupon shopping en route to low prices for maximum convenience.
Highlights from New York Fashion Week

Kink seemed to be the buzz-word all over this year’s New York Fashion Week. 2012’s most stirring and eye-catching designers showed sexy leather, teasingly high neck-lines, killer boots and androgynous angled and unstructured jackets. Leather and military looks were all over the catwalk, feeding into Ready-To-Wear collections from the most looked-to designers of the year.

Ready to Wear Leather

Fetishism peppered Alexander Wang’s collection in particular. Ready-To-Wear looks comprised leather trench coats, lacquered skirts and heavy motorcycle boots. Celine, who last year in Paris showed feminine gentrified tweeds, has created a collection of heavy leathers and powerful, androgynous pieces. Even occasionally conservative Calvin Klein nodded toward this kinky new trend with high-necked unstructured dresses that featured leather panelling and patches. DKNY, likewise, showed a number of leather trench coats and polo-collared jackets, alongside seemingly paradoxical floral prints that added emphasis to the masculine strength of much of the collection. Helmut Lang, always reliable for wearable high fashion, has characteristically taken a more practical approach and has melded this look into a more conventional business style. Ribbed leathers and rough-shaped furs combine with commandingly cut jackets to create an intensely slick, modern look.

Colours

In terms of colours, these bold styles are followed by even bulkier colours. Rich tones take the fore-front. Military looks are supported across the board by navy and olive-green. Whereas elsewhere, royal shades of maroon and burgundy are repeated.

Men's Fashion

Strangely, these fetish influences do not seem to have such a visible presence in the men’s collections. Calvin Klein offer a collection of muted, single-toned suits, which while unarguably dapper, do not have the risqué edge of the women’s collection. Likewise, Alexander Wang’s collection is by comparison down-right conservative, with a number of casual jackets and any-time shorts. Tommy Hilfiger in particular have gone in completely the opposite direction, with preppy beach looks. This trend is notably one of women’s fashion, a progression from the androgynous styles of the past few years and certainly an empowering move for women – an unashamed embracing of sexuality as women’s clothing styles begin to step onto a level battle field with men. While androgynous styles made women equal to men, these kinky new looks cut out a new edge, one that is fierce, strong and – it would seem – here to stay. London Fashion Week 2012 has just concluded, showing these looks have translated across the Atlantic – are they set to take over the world?
At face value, emo appears to come from nowhere in the early naughties, with bands such as New Found Glory, Blink 182 and Dashboard Confessional. Its history, however, dates further back with a foundation that's formed even as far back as the eighties.
The last knockings of 70's punk was beginning to breathe its last as it lurched into the early years of the 1980's. As it finally keeled over, a less aggressive, more melodic music scene developed in Washington DC. Withdrawing from the violence and harder edge of punk, this made way for lyrics with a more emotional connection. Instead of exploring violence, personal feelings were the priority. While not exactly the emo movement we've seen in recent years, it gave rise to the term 'emo-core' - a music magazine buzzword derided by its musicians and bands.
This movement only lasted into the mid-eighties, although the the influence of the bands - like Rites of Spring and Embrace - were felt across America for many years afterwards. Pulling in other influences, such as British fatalists The Smiths, along with over-theatrical rock lyricism, the emo-core movement carried on. By the early-nineties, American punk (very different to the acts of the 70's), was a mainstream affair. Emo-core - now shortened to emo - bands were seen as a champion of the independent label, with fans that made it their aim to follow these acts irrelevant of big record label marketing.
Emo in the new millennium
Throughout the 90's, emo bands were being noticed by the big companies, with bands such as Jimmy Eat World, New Found Glory and Samiam making signings. This was the beginning of the emo movement finding its way into the mainstream, as the media found a fascinating new sub-culture to champion or demonise. It wouldn't be until the turn of the millennium that it emo would begin to be a word known to those outside of the scene.
It was the summer of 2002 that emo seemed to explode in the public consciousness. There had been no new rock movement for years, and rap and R'n'B were dominating the pop charts. For the disenfranchised teens of America, and beyond, emo seemed like the perfect antidote. Instead of glorifying the world of more money, more jewellery and more girls, emo celebrated the flipside. It spoke to the losers, or rather, those that embraced that feeling of being in the dark and lost.
The image of the emo is now familiar to the Western world. The thick eyeliner and overhanging fringe on boys and girls has created animosity in various communities. As with music-centric genre, it may vanish or evolve, but the first decade of the 21st century belongs to the emo.
Dave Grohl, Travis Barker and Ringo Starr are just three of the worlds’ most famous rock stars. And they all play the drums. If you don’t quite categorise yourself as a rock God, you can still play the drums. Here are five reasons why drums aren’t just for rock stars:

1) Responsibility

Learning the drums teaches you how to be responsible. Drums require more maintenance that some instruments, as the skins will need to be changed regularly. Ignore this, and your instrument will be damaged beyond repair. With this level of responsibility, you will in turn, value the drum more.

2) Cultural Awareness

There are hundreds of different types of drum available, all of which are steeped in musical and cultural history. African instruments, in particular the djembe drum, are the perfect instrument to learn all about other traditions, cultures and customs.

The djembe originates from the Mali Empire of West Africa and is fast becoming the most popular hand drum in the world. Discovering all about other cultures whilst learning to play these exciting instruments is a great incentive to begin your musical journey.

3) Confidence

Another thing drumming will teach you, is confidence. Whether you’re playing alone, in a band or as part of a drumming circle; drumming is a massive boost for your confidence. The role of a drummer is to keep the beat, so your new found skills can help transform any performance.

Confidence is something all rock stars exude so learning to play instruments such as the drums is a great way to feel like a legend. Being confident can help improve all areas of your life, making this one of the most important lessons learnt through drumming.

4) Co-Ordination

Drumming is all about hand-eye co-ordination. The art of a great drummer comes from making it look effortless. Playing with both hands and your foot is something some people would struggle with. Learning how to master the drums will improve your co-ordination.

Being co-ordinated is something that will definitely benefit other areas of your life. Learning to drive for example, requires hand-eye co-ordination and a lot of confidence and concentration. Learning the drums can help improve all of these skills.

5) Creativity

Playing a djembe drum is great for letting your creativity flow. As your skills improve you will find yourself trying out new beats and maybe even writing your own music. This new found creativity can be used in a band, drumming circle or other group performance.

These are just some of the reasons why you don’t have to be a self-confessed rock star to play the drums. The exciting musical instrument teaches you all these valuable life skills, as well as being an extremely fun instrument to play. This is why drums such as the djembe make great children's musical instruments.
Many office nights out are scheduled for immediately after work, and that can be a challenge for those of us that would ordinarily face a long commute home. If you don't want to try to get changed out of your work clothes in the office toilets (and let's face it, who does) then try these quick tips for dressing down without completely changing your outfit.
Dressing Down is Easier than Smartening Up
The good news is it's easier to make a smart outfit look more casual, than it is to make a casual outfit look smarter. You're better off staying smart than changing into casual men's clothing and hoping everyone else does the same.
When you dress down, do it in small increments. If you go too far (no jacket, no tie, a shirt that isn't tucked in), then you can look like a slob. It's better to just step down one notch at a time - if you still feel over-dressed you can make on-the-fly modifications once you're at the venue.
Wear Versatile Office Clothing
A simple Barbour shirt and a pair of black trousers will suit any situation. Choose plain colours and a simple cut, and you'll be ready for any situation. If your usual brand of office shoe is a little too prim and proper for the average night out, you may want to swap them for some black loafers, or other neutral shoes.
Take a Smart Bag
Take a smart bag with you, and use it to store items you remove when you're dressing down. If you remove your jacket and tie, loosen the top button of your shirt, and remove your cufflinks, you should be almost ready for a smart-casual night out. There's no need to pack an entire set of casual men's clothing (although a spare pair of chinos is always handy, just in case someone spills beer on your suit). Just have something to store everything in so you only have to check your coat and bag in the cloakroom.
Re-Style Your Hair
Your bag should also contain an emergency kit with a comb, a small bottle of cologne, some deodorant, and some hair gel. Freshen yourself up, and slick your hair back (or tousle it slightly, whatever suits your face best) to instantly go from office-smart to "night out" mode.
Walk Tall
In many cases, how you carry yourself is more important than what you're wearing. Some people can look like a million dollars wearing a Primark t-shirt, let alone a stylish Barbour shirt. Make sure you're awake, fresh, and in a good mood when you walk out of the office, and you'll be ready to take on the world.
If you look confident and present yourself well, nobody will remember that you wore black shoes and white socks, but if you spend the evening trying to hide your fashion faux pas, it will be the talk of the office for the next three months.
The Best Place to Go for Spa Uniforms

The Spa Experience
When people go to a spa, they expect to undergo a luxury experience. They expect to feel pampered, relaxed and to relieve all their pent up stress. Part of the spa experience is the atmosphere. The ambience of the spa is part of what sets its mood and tone. Every detail of the spa from the therapeutic candles burned to the plants and greenery that decorates it to the uniforms of the employees all works together to create the most ideal atmosphere for luxury and relaxation.
Spa Uniforms
There are a variety of spa uniforms on the market, and one of the things that distinguishes a team or work force is the uniforms that they wear. Uniforms make employees instantly distinguishable to customers as well as one another. Plus, they give them a professional look as well as a sense of unity. Spa uniforms come in a variety of styles to suit every business and every business’s values.
Uniforms Designer
Plenty of uniforms designers exist. Fashionizer is one such designer that is dedicated to providing quality uniforms at a price that companies can afford. Fashionizer provides luxury uniforms for businesses of all types including restaurants and hotels as well as spas. They are perhaps the most dedicated corporate uniforms designer and always strive for customer satisfaction, typically delivering orders within three to five business days.
Organic Cotton

All of Fashionizer’s materials are comprised of organic fibers. Fashionizer strives to be an eco-friendly company, and that is why they make their spa uniforms out of completely organic cotton. The fabrics used to make Fashioner’s designer luxury uniforms are grown completely free of chemicals, pesticides and without the use of heavy metals. The methods they use to dye their fabrics conform to the strictest standards in the world, the EU standards.
Cool and Breathable Fabrics
Because Fashionizer’s uniforms are made from organic cotton, they are cool and breathable. They are designed with the ultimate comfort in mind. When it comes to spa uniforms, Fashionizer met a significant challenge in creating a uniform that was made of cotton and was still stretchy. Fashionizer’s unique blend of cotton, Lycra and other fibers is what helps distinguish them in the way of spa uniforms. Their cool uniforms are especially ideal for hot climates, and Fashionizer can even create, weave and dye a spa uniform from other fabrics like linen.
Styles
Because of the unique blend of materials that Fashionizer uses to create its spa uniforms, they are able to offer uniforms in a variety of styles. This makes it so that workplaces can have different styles of the same basic uniform theme to distinguish between different levels of employment. For example, a receptionist might wear a dress like spa uniform, whereas the managers might wear a business suit like spa uniform. The spa workers’ employee uniforms might feature a sash around the waist, and the men might have spa uniforms that feature pants whereas the women have ones that feature skirts.
No matter what type of business one is trying to run, uniforms will help give the team a more professional, cohesive look. This is especially true for spa teams. When shopping for spa uniforms, one should make sure that one shops with a company like Fashionizer that can give one’s company the luxury look and feel it needs.
Moving out for college is one of the most exciting things that you'll do. You will be able to really look after yourself. You aren't going to have to go to bed when mom or dad tell you―you can go to sleep whenever you please! You get to cook whatever you want―even if it's just Top Ramen. It's a lot of fun when you get to move out of your home and into an apartment. However, you will probably have a roommate. Roommates can either be your best friend or your greatest enemy. It depends on how well you get along with them. If you are looking for a roommate for college, there are some things that you should know before when you become roommates. Here are some questions you should ask them when you are looking for a roommate.

1. Do you want someone that is closer to your own age? As much as this might not matter to you at first, it's going to make a big difference with your roommate. Often, younger roommates are all about partying it up. They are very social and they want to make as many friends as they can. Older roommates are often getting ready to graduate and they are focused on their studies. They might not be as home as much, and they won't want to be as social since they have all of their friends. Find out if this will be a big issue for you. Be honest with yourself. If you want to have a more social roommate, go for someone that is more your age. If you want to have a more quiet atmosphere, get a roommate that is older.
2. What kind of sleep schedule do you operate on? This is important to ask your roommate―especially if you are going to be sharing a room. If a prospective roommate is a night owl, and you are an early bird, this will create problems for you. It's better to know now rather than having to deal with it later.
3. Do you have any allergies or medical concerns? I once had a roommate that had epilepsy. I hd no idea that she suffered from that condition, so when she started having a seizure on her bed, I had no idea what to do. I would have preferred her to actually have told me about her condition so I could have been ready for whatever happened.
4. Is there anything that you can't or won't tolerate? When meeting a potential roommate, it is better to be completely honest about everything. If you don't like when people don't take off their shoes before they come in, let them know. It's better to lay out everything before it happens. That way, you will both know which things you should stay wary of.

Top 5 British Pastimes

The British are known for their proud traditions. Cricket, afternoon tea and the Sunday roast have been done for centuries, attracting millions of visitors each year who are fascinated by this unique culture. Here are the top 5 British pastimes:

1. Football

If there is one thing more popular than a game of cricket, it's football. Fans gather across the country to cheer on their favourite team, travelling for miles to away games to see their heroes defeat their rivals (or watch as they get crushed) and braving sometimes treacherous conditions for 90 minutes of action. From Premier League clubs like Manchester United and Arsenal to lesser known clubs such as Oxford United and Norwich FC, there is something for everyone. You don't even have to play professionally, either. There are numerous amateur teams battling it out on Sunday afternoons. Visit any local park and you'll see them playing.

2. The Sunday Roast

The Sunday roast is said to have originated in the industrial revolution when families cooked meat before going to church on Sunday morning, ready to be eaten in the afternoon. The price of meat fell substantially in Victorian times, making great cuts available to all. It's still popular and there is nothing quite like sitting down to Yorkshire puddings, beef or pork, vegetables and gravy. It brings families together and tastes great.

3. Cricket

There is something very English about cricket. Where else in the world can you see grown men trying to score as many runs as possible while trying to strike out the batsmen? The game is incredibly popular in England and has a genteel feel to it. It doesn't have the energy of baseball and is relaxing to play. It doesn't matter if you don't win because it's all about playing in a gentlemen-like way and doing your best.

4. The Pub

Enjoying yourself at a pub is a classic British pastime. Many aren't the seedy or rundown places they once were but have become refined 'gastropubs', serving Michelin-starred cuisine and fine wines. Traditional pubs still exist and there's something comforting about sitting down on a comfortable sofa with friends while drinking a pint of your favourite beer or cider.

5. Afternoon Tea

Sitting down for afternoon tea isn't quite as popular as it used to be, but it's still a major part of British culture, even if you aren't at a tearoom. Many people enjoy afternoon tea in the comfort of their own homes and is an opportunity to catch up with friends and family.

Simply engraving the person’s name into the item, painting it in their favourite colour or adorning it with a favourite photo or type of flower are just a few, small ways that you can cherish the memory of your parents, siblings, grandparents or a dear close friend for many years to come. Here are some examples of how you can make an everlasting impression by personalising a touching memorial tribute.

The Perfect Personalised Memorial Tribute

A memorial bench is a great way to create a precious tribute while adding a touch of class and pure beauty to the outside of your home. These wooden or elegant concrete memory benches may be designed to suit your own personal taste and will have an engraved brass or stainless steel plaque attached to it. You may choose from the different types of wood finishes available to create your memorial bench out of and choose your own personalisation. The plaque does not necessarily have to only include the name, birthdates and date of death on it; these personalised plaques can also contain a favourite verse or quote that was near and dear to your loved one. Memory benches are a common tribute that many people choose because they can be used for both decorative purposes and are functional as well.
Memory stepping stones are another popular method that many people use to pay tribute to their friends or family members who have passed on. You can purchase these smooth stones that are typically used to line a walkway or create a path in a garden, at many garden centres or craft shops. Some of them come with designs already on them but you may also find plain stones that you can decorate yourself. Painting your own designs on a stepping stone in remembrance of a loved one is a great way to add your own touch and share your feelings about this very special person with everyone you know.
Personalised plaques that are used as a memorial tribute is another way to express your love and remember the one who has passed on in a special way. These beautifully designed works of art can contain loving religious verses, touching poems or just a few words to describe how much you miss that one person who was taken too soon. You may also use colourful paintings and have a small plaque added to the bottom centre area of the frame with the deceased’s name and information engraved on it.
There are so many touching ways that we can remember our loved ones, and it is important that we choose a way that speaks to us. Everyone mourns in a different way. Some may want to remember those who have passed in a cheerful way full of laughter and happiness so they may choose a funny portrait or image to use as a tribute. Others may want to focus on the spiritual side of death and create something that is peaceful and serene such as a garden full of their favourite flowers. Red rose bushes, colourful
Wildflowers, blooming lilies…whichever reminds you the most about the one you lost. Then each spring or summer you can sit and stare out into the beautiful field of flowers and think about how they are at peace.
Contributing to your loved one’s favourite charity is a way that you can pay tribute to the life that they lived and the legacy that they left behind. Making a charitable donation to an organisation that they were passionate about supporting in their name is a remarkable way to let their dedication and love live on for many years to come. And you know that they would have been very proud of your efforts. Many charitable organisations will dedicate an area of the building, a memorial bench or plaque or other item in the name of your loved one in response to your gracious gift. Therefore many generations to come will get to see what a spectacular person your close friend or family member truly was.

The Memory Will Never Be Forgotten

No matter how you choose to remember that special person that has passed on, it is important that you are able to receive a bit of closure from this tribute and you are satisfied with the way you handled the memorial. Choose the method that makes you remember what you loved about that person and go with it. It can be as common or unique as you want it to be. The important thing is that their memory will never be forgotten.
Follow this quick guide for hunting for the cheapest plane tickets before booking your next trip.
Know When To Search
Research has shown that Tuesday afternoon is the best time to searchand buy plane tickets. This is when airline offer the deepest discounts on flights. The discounts are often pulled by Thursday afternoon, so you have a short window in which to find and purchase your tickets. Research also shows that weekends are the worst time to purchase plane tickets, as the price of tickets is often highest on Saturdays and Sundays.
Know When To Buy
If you find a really cheap deal on an airline ticket, but it right away. Chances are, the deal won’t last long. In fact, the deal could already by done by the time you go to check out. When you’re shopping for tickets, have your credit card and your desired itinerary ready to go. If you’re traveling internationally, you should probably start looking for tickets to buy about 2 months before your trip.
If you are traveling domestically, you can wait a bit longer for last minute deals if you really want a cheap price. Buying tickets more than 3 months in advance will most likely result in you paying a higher price. Some websites, like Bing!, offer price predictor charts that can give you a much better idea of when to buy for your particular trip.
Know When To Fly
Research shows that the cheapest days to fly are Tuesday and Wednesday. Being able to fly mid-week could save you some serious cash. Research has also shown that Saturday is a cheap day to fly, as many people try to get to their destination before the weekend begins. This makes Friday an expensive day to fly as many people are heading out,and Sunday an expensive day to fly as many people are heading home.
In terms of what time of day you should fly if you want a cheap flight, the mornings and late nights are typically the cheapest. Check into flights that leave around 6 a.m., or flights that are red eyes and have you traveling overnight. Being flexible is the best way to save money when looking for cheap plane tickets.
Know What Airlines
To FlyCheck with airline companies directly to get potentially lower prices than what is listed on sites like Kayak.com, Travelocity.com and comparison travel sites. Some airlines don’t participate in these sites, so there could likely be lower prices than what is listed on these large sites.
You can also look into fees associate with different airlines. Some airlinescharge higher fees for things like bags and taxes, while others will offer lower fees for traveling. Some airlines even charge you for flying during a peak travel time, so being aware of all extra fees could save you some money.
In any society of the haves and have nots there will always be those who think that if there is no way for them to earn a proper living wage, they will take from those who do. If you want to avoid the emotional upset and expense of having your home burgled, then perhaps some top tips for burglar proofing your home, might be what you need.
Tip 1. Neighbourhood Watch Schemes
One of the things that help to deter burglars, particularly those opportunistic thieves, is an area where there are neighbourhood watch stickers in many of the windows. Watchful neighbours indicate a caring community where people who are at home during the day will keep a watch on empty homes close to them. In areas where a neighbourhood watch scheme is in place, figures suggest that criminal activity drops.
Tip 2. Don’t Let the Thieves Know Your House is Empty
Countless people have had their family holiday ruined when they return to find that their house has been burgled and valuable and sentimental items have been stolen. If you are on good terms with your neighbours get them to keep a watch on your home while you are away – some of them will even collect your post for you. Stop all regular deliveries of newspapers and milk as this screams to the thief that nobody is at home. Keep blinds and curtains as normal while you are away and leave a light on in the back of the house.
Tip 3. Spare Keys
It’s a good to leave a set of spare keys with your neighbour if you are on friendly terms. If your neighbour is at home during the day and can take in parcels. When someone is going in and out of the house during the day it does deter burglars. What you should never do is leave keys under a stone or under the door mat as these are the first places that burglars will look. Solid oak doors are far more of a challenge to the burglar than exterior doors with glass panels.

Photo: Richard-G
Tip 4. Keep an Eye on the Rubbish
Just as burglars regard piles of mail and uncollected newspapers and milk as evidence of an empty house so rubbish that has not been swept up or cleaned from the front path. Make sure that the front of the house looks clean and tidy as unkempt entrances attract burglars.
Tip 5. Ring the Bells
An increasing number of households, particularly in neighbourhood watch areas, now have alarm systems installed. Just the sight of an alarm system is often enough to put off opportune thieves. It’s a good idea to ensure that your windows are properly locked and alarmed. Check the outside of your house from a stranger’s point of view if you have exterior doors with glass panels you might want to consider investing in solid oak doors as these are not attractive to the burglar.
The importance of music

Music is an integral part of human existence. Perhaps, this is most evident in the fact that the earliest musical instruments date back to thousands of years. Music gives definition to many aspects of human life: history, culture and, of course, individuality. The effects of music on one person cannot be ignored. No matter the type of music one listens to, he or she cannot help but feel enthused, energized and even inspired by both lyrics and melody.

Those that truly appreciate the beauty and magic of music understand that it is not simply a way to identify one's self to a certain group – because doing so would only create a greater divide in society. It is not simply another form of entertainment either. Music is an expression and liberation of one's self. This statement could not ring more true for anyone as it does for musicians and those that are aiming for a breakthrough in the industry.

Music composition

As with any creative job, making music has its highs and lows. The process can uplift the human spirit and make one discover the depths of his or her soul. At the same time, poetic lyrics composition and melody arrangement can be frustrating, especially when the creative juices do not seem to flow. Even after having spent long hours, days, weeks and even months working on the lyrics and melody, music creation is far from over. The next challenge is recording what you have created; and if you produce your records independently or if you are an aspiring artist producing samples of your craft for submission to top music executives, this could be somewhat of a challenge.

Thankfully, there is technology available today allows musicians to record and produce music within the four walls of their home studio (read: bedroom, living room or garage). Given, of course, that they already have the proper equipment – music instruments and other tools - they need. This, obviously, is a more affordable alternative than going to a professional studio that charges by the hour.

Basically, all you need is a powerful computer and a good recording software to start making music files. There is some spending involved to acquire these tools, but it is an investment that will yield to more savings in the long run. When producing your own record, you have to bear in mind that today's digital-everything society is less tolerant of unrefined tracks. Background noises and other unwanted sounds are a nuisance, and will turn both the audience and music moguls off. It may be an added expense up front, but a good noise removal software would make your music sound more professional and worth listening to.

Music has different purposes for every person. The sound of music feeds the mind and soul with such emotions that greatly affect the human body in one way or another. However an individual is affected, it is no denying that music has an important role in human life. As Friedrich Nietzsche said, Without music, life would be a mistake.
